Good video, thanks for the link!

For the money you would think they would be giving you everything you need. And thanks for the heads-up about the axle nut. That would suck to find out about it when I was re-installing everything.

The last post on Page One. CB mentions that he thinks the axle end on the RCV piece has a different thread then stock. So the stock not won't fit. I'll verify as I go through this.

Hm. Whatever they had at $325 is no longer there. I'm talking with them now and what they have is one CV Joint for $585. Or they can build me a whole new front setup for $3500. :o I'm trying to confirm what I'd get for the $585...

It looks like the $325 was the H1 CV. Why the H3 one is so much more, who knows. So, is the one for $585 really worth it?

You could by a bunch of stock ones and stack them like cordwood for that price.
They must have decided to add the Hummer tax after they sold a few.
These may go the way of the BulletProof tie rods when the retail price was finally stated.
Some people will find it hard to justify while other hard core wheelers may not.

I could justify the $325 price, not so sure about this one. The boots are a good price though, at just under $30. I think I'll handle this as a stock replacement.

I came across an old thread here that mentioned replacing the 07 half shafts with an 08 since the 08's are thicker. What's the current feeling about this?

I thought at one point because of the Alpha they started making them a bit longer and that became the standard going forward. I don't recall any thicker ones.

I can't find the dang post now, it was from 2009, but it mentioned the 07 and earlier being 7/8" diameter and the 08-on being 1-1/8" diameter. It didn't mention a length difference.

I just tried a different search and found this: http://www.hummerxclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=9864 the first pic from this post was linked in the post I mentioned above. This seems to imply that whatever I order now will be the larger (thicker and longer) setup. I also noticed that EMPI make a axle replement for only $72 bucks! http://www.familycar.com/store/item/Hummer_H3_EMPI-Axle_Axle-Assembly_2006_2009_EMP801525.html So, for that cost, why just replace one piece, I'm thinking just swap the whole thing while I'm in there, especially since I'm over 80k miles now.

Thoughts?

Well in that post you referenced, I at that time bought two shafts from the Broken that were new and got the newer design since I was wanting the improvement. I later traded for an Alpha. I never fortunately had one out of the 06 so I don't have any comparison shots of the two together.

I wanted the OEM. I did not read all that right now but for that price those EMPI should be great for a spare. I think there was some discussion of possibly they sell rebuilt ones but I don't know that for sure. I just popped in here between watching sub contractors here at the house. I'm going nuts but will read more about those.

The EMPI lists it as 'new' not re-poped, but who knows. I did see another thread here that someone mentioned the EMPI were good quality replacements for stock. The price just seems so damn low...

Does anyone have a how-to for replacing the cv? I've got a pdf service manual, but it's a bit of a pain. Just wondering if there was a write-up on it somewhere. I've got the EMPI axles here now, $150 for two. :D I guess I'll find out if they're junk or not...
