Alternative Fuel Options - H1 gas

Postby whiteicebox » Wed Feb 16, 2011 12:07 am

Have you heard of anyone converting the gasser to an alternative fuel? I’m looking to a cheaper way to keep it on the road.

You mean like propane? Not on a Hummer specifically but I think it's common on the 5.7L.

And welcome to the forum. 8)

Thanks Rich. Do you have a contact/website of a company that can get it done?

I have been thinking about this myself actually. Its pretty simple for the 350. Check out this website, I know some guys on another forum who run this setup on thier rock crawlers. If you call he can pretty much set you up with anything you need. http://www.nashfuel.com/

Nice Thread, that's exatly my plan when I got my gasser. I am located in Germany and the gasprice here is already twice as high then in the US. Propane is about half price, a lot of germans with big engines drive with LPG (Propane).

I keep you up to date with my project.

I told you, I keep you up to date with this project. My H1 is running on propane for about 6 month now. I had some issues with the ignition system after installing, but changing the spark plugs, ignition wires and distributor cap was solving the problem.

The only issue I have to live with is the lost of a part of the truckbed. I have a 110l propane tank on the truckbed now. The car is still starting with gas and as soon as the temp of the engine reaches about 30 degrees Celsius, it is switching to propane. That's between 0,5 and 2 miles driving, depends on the outside temp.

I would do it again! LPG is half of the price then gas over here!

Awesome! What kind of MPG numbers are you experiencing? I have a wagon so installing a tank of that size will not work for me. But, take a look at this: Goodwin Assist Hybrid-Electric Kit. I found it on http://www.teakatoys.com. I emailed them twice to get more information but never got a response. It seems to be the only item on the site without a price. If this kit works, even a little, it may be an option for me.

Is Goodwin the name associated with H-Line conversions? If so, do a thorough internet search on that person/company. Buyer beware.

MPG was going up with the conversion. With gas I have about 9 MPG and with LPG I have about 7.35 MPG. For half of the price I can live with it.

Never heard of the Hybrid-Electric Kit. Gotta look at this. But it might be a problem offroading. You know - electric stuff doesn't like water....

I have even seen a Wagon with a tank in the back. Only a problem when you need the whole place back there. They even have tanks in shape of a spare tire in different sizes. But you got to have a gasser to make this conversion!
