blower not working on H3

Can someone please help.... My blower wont work on the heater. I have read previous entries on this problem and it looks like the problem is the blower motor resistor. Is there any way to tell forsure before ripping into this??? There is NO way Im payin the dealer $200-300.... Thats crazy!!!

If you want some diagnostics on this, send me a PM with your email address, and I'll send you the diagrams and full diagnostics. I just helped a friend in TN who had the same problem, and in his case, it was just a simple resistor replacement.

But, it can be the burnt connector, resistor block, control head, blower motor or associated wiring.

The H3 is a strange beast for motor control. On 99 percent vehicles, if the blower works in HI but does not work in any other position, it can almost be guaranteed it is the resistor. But, the H3 supplies the ground for the motor, even in high, through the resistor assembly.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to the two people that replied... I ended up tearing into it anyway and found the problem. It was the resistor along with the harness. It is all melted togethor and I couldnt even pull them apart. Nobody around my area seems to have the parts in stock so I ended up turning to the Hummer dealer to get the parts. Even they are out of stock for this part.. I guess it is a very common problem. So they were able to jiggle the wires to get the heat working temporaily until the part comes in.... Hopefully it wont be long....

My a/c blower just went out today after a grocery store run. This is a great post with picture, this is the exact issue I have...my plug was melted together on the passenger side under the glove box. I see that Autozone has the part, but it is special order. My question is this: should I just order this part or should I order the resistor as well? Would this also cause the blower motor to fail?

I guess if I replace this part and the resistor and the blower motor still does not work I have my answer, but wanted to plan financially in case I needed to save up for the blower motor...better to know now than later.

Just got my issue fixed. I ordered the resistor from Auto Zone and put it in, still didn't work. I looked at the harness plug and it was burnt pretty bad with some plastic on it. I stripped the orange wire and put a crimped end on it and cut the red adapter so it would directly fit on the resistor and put it all back together and it worked.

Thanks for all the great info on here. This is my first reply/post. Had same issue with blower motor. Used the info from the hummer forums link to fix the resistor and wiring harness. Thank you for posting the link

I also have two Colorado pickups that had the same problem, I contacted GM and complained...they repaired both at no charge.

Mine also went out. $30.00 resistor. Plugs right underneath the glove box. Easy fix.

The AC went out on our two H3 my son's is an 06 and mine is a 08. I told my son I had read about a problem with the ac resistor connectors melting. My son took out the resistor this weekend on both H3's and found the same result. on slot of the 6 in the connector was burnt black. This caused a disconnection. He used a wire cuter to cut out only the burned area afrom the red female connectoins. He cleaned out the male side from the resistor and replace the female side for only that one wire connection with a single female connector with the wire clamp end. Made both AC's work. No cost. Good Job Son!

A little after a year ago i changed the plug and all parts connected. All was great. . . in the middle of December 2011. . . it started again . I could wiggle the wires. . . heater work for a couple days then wiggle. again, again . Today, i took it apart. Burnt again . This time i took it apart as per the intructions by 'f5fstop' but instead of soldering i used heat shrink tubing on all the wires and terminals. works great so far. will keep you guys posted. if this doesn't then solder and heat shrink. Just had this happen, no fan on any speed. On high you could hear the relay click - but no blower - all fuses ok. Unscrewed the resistor and it looked ok from the outside. Pulled it apart and the end connector was melted and burned. I used a dremmel cut off wheel to cut away the plastic on both connectors for the end pin - cleaned up both the wire and plug terminals with sandpaper, pushed them together and then soldered the connectors. Hopefully that will be then end of that problem. Moral of the story - even if the connector looks ok from the outside (no discoloration or melting) it can be a mess on the inside.

Well hello there guys.

Today in the after noon are A/C stopped working,
well me and my father didnt know what it was until reading everyones
post on here.

What we did was unscrew the resistor away from the blower and found
that it was burnt out and melted, the thing was once we detatched it from
the female part we saw that it was not so bad.

So my father just got a knife and scraped up both male and female plugs
and then once we saw that it looked pretty clear, my father put everything
back up.

After that I turned on the truck and the air started to blow like if it never stopped working.

Now i dont know if it will work for everyone else but thats something that you all can try without spending any money on new parts.
