Yep, I didn't disconnect, just too lazy! (that won't happen again!)
You are correct, with the links connected, I can't get anywhere near full droop. Plus I never squashed the opposite side as hard as I did that day, so the rear was really trying to get more flex. Enough, as it turns out to snap the weld off the factory link. Please note I said the factory weld failed, not my reconstruction! (It's a small victory, but a victory none the less!)
I am rebuilding with rod ends and proper endlinks, like you'd expect to see in the rotorhead of my bird. No more snappy!
I made a similar mistake once, by not removing my steps. They dont last long on the rocks!
So now we have to work on the geometry back there:) I am thinking you will want the frame tabs more towards the front like close to where the OEM tabs are now. When sitting at normal ride height, the links should angle forward - so they will need to be longer. This angle is required so there is plenty of available length when at full droop. You also want those frame tabs positioned right above the sway bars bushings.
To determine proper length, let rear end hang at full droop, turn ends of away bar straight upward and measure how long they need to be (pointing straight upward). Next, you will then want to determine if the frame mounted tabs need to be in different location from where the OEM tabs are. Lower rear off of jack so it is sitting at ride height. Position sway bar so ends are parallel to ground and see where the new length of end link lands on the frame rails. You probably know this all already because you are better at this stuff than I am, but I wanted to try and help. I only know of this, because I have contemplated doing your exact same mod every time I look at that Low Hanging Sway Bar Assembly back there.
