Just a day of fun with some friends from work. Missing from the pictures is a M1 garand, Ak47 and a few pistols.

New toy I just finished

Finally finished my new build! I built it off a Springfield Armory National Match M1A, and added some goodies. JP muzzle brake, Schuster adjustable plug, Smith bolt release, Sadlak mag latch, Basset picatinny mount, Burris XTR 1.5-4x40 scope. I also added the Magpul AFG for the up-close shooting. It helps quite a bit. I also have a Sadlak custom fitted scope mount for when I want to throw on the big 5-25 US Optics scope. It also has National Match iron sights.

Now I just have to go to the range and see how it performs. I'll have to dial in the barrel tensioner, as well as the adjustable plug. I've been putting together these parts for some time, as well waiting for the stock to be made in the colors requested. I chose the Coyote/Dark Earth color combo. I find it the most flexible in all terrains. I painted the scope and bipod with Brownells Allumahyde II in Coyote to match the stock. I want to paint some more parts like the scope rings and scope mount so everything matches up better. I chose the Burris scope strictly based on the reticle and magnification. Even though there are much better scopes with an even better magnification range, this was the only one with a decent reticle. I have no experience with Burris scopes. Time will tell if they are any good and how well they hold up to abuse. So far the 175 FGM matches the reticle out to 400 meters.

The 17.5 lbs (8 kgs) is heavy for some, but I'm used to heavy rifles. By the way, the color is the same I painted my H3 in :)

Looks very nice and I bet it is a shooter. I'm too old though, I'd need a gunbearer to tote it for me!

I looked at the XTR 1-4 for latest build, but I found the reticle too fussy for what I need, so went with the Accupoint 1-4x with green triangle and really like it. I was about to get a Meopta K-Dot until I looked through the Accupoint.

Nice rifle 8) 8) 8)

Nice shirt!

Nice "thrown together parts" too. :yup:

Why'd you go rail over handguard? Future flexibility?

Waiting to see if Trijicon fixes the scope from my 6.8 to finish sorting it out myself.

See, my theory is the scope is whack. They may think I am!

'Cuz it looks cool

I've used carbon fiber hand guards in the past, and the 20" I'm shooting above as a CF one, but I wanted this to be a fun gun. When I built it I put an Aimpoint Comp-M on it with pop up iron sights on the rails, but ended up buying the Accupoint and removed the iron sights. So yes, flexibility is important for this gun.

I went with a YHM light weight spectre length rail as it was about the lightest I could find, and as bonus was one of the cheapest too :)

FWIW Here's what I put togthere:

Daniel Defense cold hammer forged 5.56 1-7 twist barrel
JP Cooley comp
VLTOR MUR-1A Upper
VLTOR EMOD stock
BCM/VLTOR Gunfighter charging handle
Accupoint 1-4x
American Defense quick disconnect mount
Bushmaster lower
JP trigger and lightweight hammer
Magpul MAD lever

Can't remember what the BCG is, something I had laying around. I've added a couple of small things since the pic, a Magpul enhnaced trigger guard and some extended take down pins.

6.8 seems to becoming quite popular. I've heard that Trijicon have good customer service, but have never used them myself.

Excellent parts list, and lightweight is good. JP makes a good trigger -- I have one on my M4gery.

I have been thinking if I do another one that the handguard might be a better choice if it doesn't need lights and things hanging off of it.

We will see about Trijicon. Waiting to hear back from them, it has only been a week and a half. I have almost the same model on a .375 and no complaints but it has not seen much use (sadly). 6.8 has more oomph for hunting, and that is why I picked it up.

You guys gave me some motivation and since can't work on my vehicles due to hurt back, I stayed indoors and changed the scope on my Remington AWR to one of the new Leupold Vari-X 7L

One nice sope - I must say I am very impressed with it.

It came with cover and rings and it's a good thing because it has a 34mm main tube

Had custom shop make a custom elevation knob with bullet drop compensation increments to match my ammo's ballistics out to 500 yds
