M101A2 Trailer

How you built it

M101A2 Trailer

Postby JustinOK » Wed Oct 29, 2008 7:22 pm

So I just won an auction for a surplus M101A2 3/4 ton trailer thru Government Liquidations. Won it for $270 + fees. It's valued at $7,558. :D I need to pick up a new tarp for it, redo 2 of the 5 bows on top, redo the latches, get a new support (landing leg), and the brake may need servicing. It's more or less in great shape, light rust here and there. I love it.

I was thinking of obviously getting it repainted. The question begs, do I go with matching yellow? Flat black (then I can do touchups with a can on my own)? Or maybe even something else? I'm also going to get the interior LineX'd.

Best part is it was available at my local DRMO (3 miles from my place!!) so no shipping!

Edit - Oh yeah, gotta get a trailer lighting kit (no big deal, they can be had for pretty cheap). No lights on this one, just a few reflectors.

Great find Justin....

You know they have Yellow Line-X right??? That could be pretty cool if they did the inside and outside. If you dont like that, I would just rattle can it so its easy to do touch ups if need be.

Are you going to use it just to carry stuff or is it for the trails?
Miss you Rich! Thank's for all the memories!

Well, I briefly thought of getting the whole thing Line X'd, but if I do, I think it would have to be solid black. I've seen how other colors can fade. I have no idea what I'll be using it for. For now I can load up my rig with all my camping gear and tools/parts as is. But it would be cool to bring the trailer along to be used solely for camping gear and have only tools and parts in the truck. Make it easier to load up for the way home.

And yes, doing the paint myself would be cheap and easy to maintain. I am worried about stripping it though. I hear the C.A.R.C. "paint" is a royal PITA to remove. I'll have to think about this before I do anything... too many options. :) But since I only paid $270 for it, why strip it first? Just get the spray paint out and have fun!

Very cool. Military stuff is neat. I'd go with the black. Versatile color.

You can search by locations near you, or search for what you want and get it shipped to you. Shipping a trailer would be more than what you win it for though. Now if you're willing to drive to Barstow or Camp Pendleton, your options really open up. There's a few M105A2 trailers at Barstow right now. Them are nice.

Oh, there are 19 M101A1 trailers up for auction 9 miles from me (the Norman, OK location).

Put a fold out top on it and a pop up tent and you have a great sleeping area, and still have plenty of storage space.

Cool trailer!! Now you got me searching that site for trailers. :wall: I saw a nice military trailer ... on a trailer not too long ago. It was desert sand and had beadlocked wheels, was pretty badass looking!

It's still in my garage! Used it to help a friend move, used it to haul crap around town, but I haven't modded it in any way. Well, I bought a set of magnetic trailer lights.
