Nugget's H3 Mods so Far

How you built it

The drawer system has been fantastic and worked really well but there were a couple of little anoying things that I have been wanting to get around to fixing.

1. If on unlevel ground the cooking drawer wanted to roll back in.
2. The butane cooker when set up was higher than the drawer so you had to fold it up into the "stored" position if you wanted to use the drawer above.
3. The cutlery drawer was never really finished and things vibrated around too much.

I have installed a little spring loaded ball bearing latch to locate the drawer

If this doesn't proove to be quite strong enough I will do the same on the other side of the drawer. Good thing is that it locates as part of opening the drawer, not as a seperate latch that has to operated.

I found a new butane cooker that is a lower profile. It is one of those little things that will just make life on the road that much easier.

Getting the cutlery sorted is going to make Wendy a LOT happier as well. Also means knives will keep sharper etc. I suspect I might need to have a 2nd magnetic strip for the bigger knives, but we will see how it goes on next weekends trip up the coast.

Nice finishing touches.

FWIW My Tuffy drawer is a bear to open when the vehicle is facing downhill, and you definitely don't want to get your fingers caught in there when it closes itself.

I have had a lot of trouble witht he brake line bracket which bolts to the rear diff breaking ever since the rancho kit was installed.....oh yeah I MIGHT have done a few extra suspension mods as well, but either way, it has broken 4 times so I decided to fix it once and for all.

The weak point is where it actually bolts onto the diff as it has snapped through the bolt hole each time. I double plated it so I think that should be right now.

TD are kindly arranging some long lines for me so that should just about end that little exercise.

They don't use CB's in other parts of the world.. It's VHF or UHF.. Can't remember which.. And even if you could get one of those radios here, you wouldn't have anyone to talk to..

You can get these in the US though..

That's right, it is a UHF. Apart from better clarity in our opinion, the UHF's come in a good range of fitting options other than straight 1 DIN. Mine is a remote head so the "face" is very small and basically has the controls and the screen whilst the body is easily fitted up under the dash out of the way. 8)

A lot of folks around here use this little thing.. I think the guts are about the same as the one I have in the dase, just all in different places..

The part that gets hidden under the dash...

I really thought long and hard before I stuck the CB in the dash, rather tahn going with this one, mostly due to the theft thing, but I really don't think anyone stealing it would get more than $10 out of it at a pawn shop..

Nugget, your rig is incredible! I might try my hand at taking out the rear seats when I drive across the USA on vacation for more space. More pics please.

Thanks for sharing.

Nugget sets a hard pace to follow.
If you remove the seats you will have more room that is easy to access for trips. Im working on a platform to install but seem to keep getting distracted. Meanwhile Nugget just keeps going and going, "Adventure before Dementia" Nugget 2010

Hey Hunner, you might want to take a look at this for your 10.3 lens:

I've heard good things about it, and they have a free trial download.

I will check that out. I used DXO optics trial for awhile. I left that one warped just for fun. I ended up selling that lens and got a 12-24. It work great and no warp. Nuggets gonna shoot us   better have a long barrel.

This is a little off topic, but since we are on the subject.... If you have Capture there is an algorithm to straighten 10.5 images. You can also use PS to manually straighten. As for the 12-24 I've noticed subtle distortion on the short end. For example, here's a photo of my old H3 taken at 12 mm. You can see that it's stretched a bit:

And when taking group photos folks on the ends sometimes complain about looking "heavier than normal"
