I have already posted the rear suspension mods in the H3 section so I will not go into the full detail but a military wrap bigger 2nd leaf, long and bigger 3rd leaf, add a leaf and longer travel, big bore Rancho's pretty much summarises it!

The Turbo finally just gave me too much trouble ( my 1 hope for the Global recession is that it Turbonetics are hardest hit!) and so I had it replaced with a Super Charger with water cooled intercooler..

The original air filter box had to go to make room for the super charger and was replaced with a K & N.

air box 01.JPG
air box 01.JPG (98.56 KiB) Viewed 10793 times

ARB terminated the snorkel in the guard, leaving it to me to make a custom air box and join it up to the snorkel.

air box 02.JPG
air box 02.JPG (78.91 KiB) Viewed 10786 times

I started with a section of 6 1/2" (165mm) tube and cutting a 4" hole for the air inlet. Then we welded the inlet tube and also blanked off the end.

The lid was made from the lid from a Discovery air box, modified and then encased in a polyurethane moulding so that it fits over the main tube and sealed with a large clamp. The K & N filter is clamped on the inside of the lid.

air box 08.JPG
air box 08.JPG (72.52 KiB) Viewed 10771 times

I was able to use the rubber hoses supplied with the origianl kit, cut it in half and add a section of pipe.

air box 10.JPG

And bingo, one custom air box connected to the snorkel.

When I mounted the Mile Marker Winch, the extra electrical cables started to make the battery terminals just too crowded so i decided to sort it out a bit.

I installed a positive bank strip and also an earth post to remove a lot of the clutter from teh terminals.

Thanks for the kind comments.

These things tend to be a work in progress and I decided that I woudl like it to be a bit easier to change/clean the air filter. I had the body holding of the air sensor bolted to the side wall of the engine bay which in retrospect wasn't the brightest thing I had done! So changed it so that the air sensor body bolts to a bracket and the bracket bolts to a nut welded to the underside of the guard. To change a filter, I now undo 2 clamps and the one bolt and it all comes away nice and easy. So version 2 is like this...

Decided to extend the plug in socket for my Mile Marker 10,000lb variable speed control winch to make life a bit easier.

The Mile Markers have had some problems with the control boxes starting to smoke in Aussie. I have not had any problem with mine, but just to be safe I installed an isolation switch so the winch only has power running to it when the isolation switch is turned on.

Thanks Phil,

I have to learn how to weld aluminium!

The engineering shop across the road from my work had some 170mm..sorry..6 1/2" pipe. Pretty heavy guage which was a bit of an overkill but free wins every time!!!! 8) 8)

I started trying to modify and early Disco air box but gave up . I did rescue the lid and then got a local shop to cast some urethane over it and around the body tube to creat the lid. Seals really well and enabled me to replace the filter easily which was an obvious design requirement!!! 8)

I also put in a water drain using a "rubber duck bill". Not 100% convinced yet as when I bench tested it using a vacum cleaner to create suction, I got some water through. Thinking i will block it up again and trust the snorkel not to take in water.

Any thoughts greatfully accepted here as I have never built an airbox before!
