Patience grasshoppa, I been up till 3 am three nights just to get this far. Im going to run it like it is for now. Im not doing the rock crushing I was doing to keep up with the hardcore guys with beaters, been there dun that. I will probably fit the center clamp at some point but Im burned out. That means taking all of that off, agin. Im going to enjoy driving for awhile and not mess with all that until later.

HUNNER ALPHA AIR INTAKE MOD PROTOTYPE MODEL R (FOR RED!)
I went with a 3 inch pipe to get 1/2 inch fan clearance for offroad conditions. 3.5 inch pipe and boot was real close. The 3.5 pipe would have to be slightly oval or a good whack with a BFH! or maybe a hydraulic press custom dent. I figured it was a trade off. Looking inside the air box outlet and inside of stock baffle about 3 inches was about what there was despite the large ends. I would have to start over with boots and clamps to try to make the bigger one fit. I was really concerned about clearance. On the V8 the straight line intake and smoother volume, even at 3 inch has improved idle, smoother acceleration at normal driving speeds. Tromp it and it wakes up removes the flat spot. Im happy just like it is. hmmm pcm, Flashpaq....................
Like my 06 I-5 air Intake circa 9/21/2006 that (I) never produced after posting how to do it and released specific info, this is just my personal version of an Alpha air intake. You can do it! Cost around $60.

I was in Autozone this weekend picking up some cleaning supplies and I saw all those components on the shelf and was thinking of doing the same thing. Does it really help that much?

The Autozones here did not have these sizes or quality. They had the little ricer version but not in these sizes. These are actually turbo boots like for my Cummins. These are the aramid reinforced silicone. Rated to 500 degrees and 100lbs pressure. Overkill but actually a dollar or two cheaper than the polyester silicone rated at 350 degree and 40 psi? The 90 degree transition hose is the catch and I had to trim the throttle body side shorter to the bend to get the room I wanted at the fan. That is a scrap of aluminized 3 inch exhaust pipe my muffler man gave me. I threaded a hose barb in the back and used some fuel line I had for the crankcase vent.
In my case of the 3 inch pipe it did smooth things out. It was not a rompin stompin yee haa feeling but the butt dyno felt it to be more peppy. I had to know. That sort of flat spot on just normal acceleration was bugging me. FIXED

I guess I should add my new 1/4 inch skids to my Alpha Build thread. So,

Well, the Alpha sure is coming along nice. You definitely have an expedition vehicle.

Thanks, I have been googling lots of places to go out your way. Just not sure where yet. I would like to make Yellowstone and Yosemite someday in between real offroad trails and spend more time around Death Valley.
Too many trails, not enough time. :)

Man it sure is looking great :yup: 8)

That nugget does set a rough pace to follow doesn't he, I didn't even try

If that rear rack is getting to small and you need a bigger one, let me know when you need to get rid of the little one :D

Thanks Mark,
I snitched the support off the little one until I can make another one for the big rack. It seems to take out some movement mostly noticeable when I close the door. I can't decide yet but I'm guessing I'm too lazy to swap back and forth. I just took a smaller ice chest in the middle of the big one to Galveston. My friend that went with me now wants an H3 and he ask about the small one. I'm still going to see if another "friend" that owes me would make some. You could not have fuel cans, full I guess, on the Ferry so rather than have them mess with me even with it empty I left it off. With water and fuel and ice and whatever there could be substantial weight on there but it seems to handle it. I don't see any flexing of the main frame just right out at the back there is just enough it can move slightly. The brace stopped that.

Got the Sy-Klone precleaner.
http://www.sy-klone.com/mm5/merchant.mv ... ry_Code=S9
Instant install. Seems to have quitened the intake down a little but perfomance feels the same as the snorkle 90* which is good. Could not find any dust around here. Maybe in the spring before the rains start.
Edit: actually it moved the intake noise from under the hood to out side. I ran with the pass side window and sunroof open a few times and when hard accelerating I can hear a great machine pulling air. Love the sound, but I guess my mileage will decrease if I do that much
