AZ - Annual Four Peaks/Sycamore Creek Cleanup Feb 6th

Postby alrock » Sun Dec 06, 2009 12:19 pm

February 6th, 9 am to 3 pm. While this conflicts with the mega run, the mega run may get moved to the 20th of Feb.

It would be great to get a bunch of Hummer owners out there doing our part to clean up other people's mess. This is a great wheeling area that we need to protect and these cleanups go a long way towards helping the OHV cause.

Bump! I hope some others will join me for this event to help clean up one of our favorite wheeling areas. We can pick a time to meet still (9:30 ish?) and you can stay for as short or long as you like. But a show of force from the Hummer community would be great.

Items for the give away are showing up daily. :D

Also some press is working out:
Keep an eye out on Channel 12 News over the next couple days. We did an interview with Lin Sue Cooney for a special about the cleanup.

Here is an article about the cleanup from ABC 15: http://www.abc15.com/content/entertainm ... I-f_w.cspx

We will be coming today, we're probably going to leave the hummer at home and ride with a friend who will be pulling our crappy little trailer (mine has no trailer hitch) ,,, Will hopefully be at the gas station at or just after 9 .. If not we'll see you guys up at four peaks.

Jerry, Phil and I participated in the cleanup yesterday. We didn't see Phil until later as he was working in a different cleanup site. In all, I think they had 40 sites, campsites or shooting areas, set up for cleaning. There were a dozen of us working area "A" and thankfully one of our volunteers was in the hauling biz so he had a truck to accommodate all of our trash.

Overall, I saw about 4 roll-off dumpsters get filled with garbage - and that doesn't include our load as the guy went straight to the dump.

While this pic isn't exactly the area we cleaned it is representative

We hauled out at least 4 shot up TVs, construction cones, doors, boxes, beer cans, thousands of shells. While you Atlantic guys were shoveling snow we where shoveling this **** :d

Here's a few after pics.

Well, it was an amazing year again. THANK YOU from Danica and I to all of the many volunteers that came out and the many sponsors that lent a hand in making it so successful this year.

-Just under 500 people came out to make the day a giant step forward to cleaning up our Arizona deserts.

-Almost 25 TONS of trash were cleaned up filling 4 and a half large dumpsters!!

Check out these amazing photos from Chris Marzonie HERE.

Thanks Tim for putting on this event. Glad it is such a success, though the bummer is we collected 50,000 lbs of garbage left in the past year.

To put it in perspective, that's 137 lbs of garbage left there every single day in the last year. Or, if you figure most of it comes on weekends, it's about 1000 lbs every weekend :wall:

When you put it into those numbers it really hits home! YIKES!
Makes me want to go and sit out there and "talk" to people that dump all that trash.

In other news:

Your all heroes!

Big thanks to Lin Sue Cooney and the videographers who put together a follow up to the Four Peaks Pickup which aired last night just after the Olympics!
