Synthetic Oil and Roof Rack

Synthetic Oil and Roof Rack

Postby MT Hummer » Tue Jan 26, 2010 9:22 pm

I have an 03 H2 with 75K miles. I purchased the H2 last November to replace a worn out Jeep - and it is a project vehicle. The vehicle is in great condition, in fact I do not believe it has ever been off road (until the first day I owned it). The vehicle will be used strictly as an off road/trailer pulling vehicle. I am going to replace the fluids before Spring (differentials, transfer case and tranny) and engine oil change. I am thinking about switching to synthetic oils and lube - can anyone share the pros and cons.

Also I am going to purchase a roof rack - I like the Gobi. Are there any other brands with the same qualities that someone has installed?

As a side note. I love this vehicle - I wish I would have taken the plunge earlier.

Thanks for your help!!!!!!!

Welcome aboard.

When I read the thread title I was like wtf does synthetic oil and roof racks have in common.

I switched to synthetics about a year ago and am very happy I switched. As far as racks go, I have a Gobi and the quality is excellent, well worth the price. TrailDuty just extended their special on them so nows the time to snatch one up.

Mate,

I run synthetics, Redline specifically, have done for the last 31000 Miles, I have my oils (all of them) analysed at each change because I'm in the dirt and crap 90% of the time and I tow a van of ~66oo Lbs. I'm moving away from Redline because it lasts no longer than about 9000 Miles, max, by then it"s pretty sad and it costs a fortune here in Aus. I'm now trying Mobil 1 (full syn) for the engine and Nulon (Aussie oil) for diffs and tranny. I'll publish the results here on the forum when I get them. Bottom line for me, Redline is over priced for the results I get from it. Facts are Redline = $180.00 Au for 1 Gal and Mobile 1 costs $79 AU for 1.32 Gal, my bet is I'll get the same miles out of the mobile 1 and even if I don't I'll get at least 6200 miles out of it and as I normally do my oil changes every 6200 miles I'll be in front financially.

My 2c worth, BTW, that's an Aussie 2c, 'bout 1.8 over your way................
