HELP Problem with skyjacker rear shocks ?

Postby fourfourto » Sat Feb 04, 2017 6:27 pm

installed the front ones easy enough.

On the rear shocks the sleeve on the lower bushing is to small to take factory bolt ?
If I use a less thick bolt it will slap around in the mounting hole on factory mount.
If I don't use the sleeve and put the bolt through bushing im afraid it will pinch the bushing as it tightened up( factory install you tighten all the way )

any ideas ?

going to call skyjacker on monday

I have not had the factory shock mounts in the rear since I traded the '06 so don't recall but if you tighten it down it won't hold well? The edges might pinch the bushing if I understand correctly?

Early build or not shouldn't make any difference, was just saying that I have not had the factory lower shock mounts in almost 8 years so don't recall exactly how they look. When I did my spring over a few weeks ago ran into the same issue of the bolt hole being different. With the smaller bolt when tightened down it squeezed together tight enough that it's holding the shock just fine. Would be surprised if they tell you to run without the sleeve.

Talked to skyjacker tech said if you have larger bolt or stud the sleeve is not needed.
tighten snug the 1/4 turn ,it wont pinch bushing.

I do notice the mounting bracket on the h3 is thick and don't think it will pull in.

using smaller bolt is not a option as it will float in the bigger hole on mount..

Ill stop by my brothers shop and install them using lift tonight, to cold to do outside.

Thanks for the input 8)

Surprised they said to go with a larger bolt without the sleeve. It's the best overall option though, don't want moving around in the mounting bracket.

Tried at brothers shop to install without sleeve.
IT DOSENT WORK
was not happy bolt was loose the way they said to do it ,tightened up and it pulled in bracket almost to the point of hitting shock. :wall:
Idiots I tell ya.

Anyway decided to call local distributor and went down there and gave me (for FREE )2 correct lower bushings with proper sleeves
fits perfect ,I can't believe someone else didn't have issue over the last 10 years and skyjacker didn't know
if anyone has problem in the future call their local distributer mine was

Glad you got it worked out and big thumbs up for the local distributor for getting you taken care of. I am also shocked that this has not come up in all this time.

If anyones doing this install make sure you get proper bushing / sleeve for lower rear shock.
You need 2 sleeves with a 9/16 or 13mm inside diameter with matching bushings.(came with red ones guy gave me black ones.)
just have them put it with original order and install will go smooth.

Truck rides nice and tight,The back of H3 has a little detail . might have got between 1/8 to 3/16 more height on truck, probably sag from old shocks even though the factory ones drove good and had 150k on them.
