How did I ever miss this thread?! That clunk has been bugging me for YEARS! What are the 'wings' you are talking about? It doesn't seem obvious to me, sitting hear look at the screen. Maybe it will when I look at the door. :)

I had the "Clunk" for a little while as well, and I had never heard it before. What i figured it was, was the tire, if you just try and tighten the bolts they'll feel tight, but you have to pick up the tire a little so they do not press on the rivets, and then tighten the bolts. I thought it was something big as well because it randomly started "Clunking", but maybe thats all that is wrong with your H3? Try it out!

Hey Trailerpup, I'm thinking that spare tire you have in the back of the H3 isn't going to fit

Gracias. Noise was driving me crazy. I was yelling at billestein thinking it was bad shocks. Since ride stiffened noise was loud and drove me crazy. Just took metal piece off rear door hammered wings till they closed more and kept trying on the metal piece on door panel till felt snug. Went for test ride,And BAM! No more noise. You guys saved me some cash. Thanks again.

THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! Oh, I wish I had checked this forum weeks ago. Bending that plate worked. I've spent over a week taking the door apart and troubleshooting it. BTW, taking the spare off gave a false positive because the weight was gone. Next time, I'll come here before touching anything!!

Man, I should have come here earlier. I had the clunking and was convinced that it was coming from under the back of my H3. I slide under the back of the truck and looked and looked in vain and against my better judgement, I took it to the dealer. $1000.00 later they told me that they had to change the rear door latching hardware and for that the front skid plate was also loose and something was broken on it causing it to rattle broken so they replace it also. They charged me something like $250.00 of the latching hardware and seems to me $400 or $500 for the skid plate. Here it is about a year later and the clunk is back. I will look tomorrow and try the hammer method. I will not take it back to the dealership. I got ripped off but I wanted it fixed and know better than to argue with them because they have my truck keys!

Sorry to hear about your previous luck with this but welcome to the group. Hopefully this will take care of your issue and you can forget about dealing with them again :yup:
