hit the local mud hole

Postby Gator » Mon Apr 04, 2011 10:24 pm

Mark, myself and another buddy hit the local mud hole this last weekend. We took a road that is marked as un-maintained and possably unpassable at times. Then hit the area of the mud hole. The place was on fire a few weeks ago and then rained on pretty good days before our trip.

When we got there, it was fairly uneventfull so I decided to try an ATV trail that I figured would liven things up. As we headed down the ATV trail we came up on an oncoming ATV'er. He did not seem enthused about us being on that trail :duh: So he said we would never make it and that we should drop down to the lower trail. We did, but after a few hundred yards of that I led us back up to the high road. The hill going up gave us all a little trouble, but we all made it without assistance. Once we were up, more unhappy ATV'ers  This time when they said we would never make it, I just said we were going to find a place to turn around. Yeah I lied, I wanted a challenge and found it a 100 yards further down. On one side of this trail was burned trees, on the other a 20-30 foot drop into a canal. Came up on a tree but did not get close enough to it so I ended up with 2 wheels over the side. A little winch work and I was back on and passed the tree. My buddy and mark took the left line around the trees and had no problems :duh: After that we found an S10 stuck and he and his GF had been there for an hour & half. A YJ was on seen but did not have a strap or bumper to rescue this guy so we put the H3 to work while I snapped a few pics. Pretty relaxing day and now I am waiting for Mark to wash and wax my truck for being such a great trail leader :D

Sounds like a worthwhile adventure. That was a pretty cool looking Xterra.

We were planning just a relaxing trail day to scout out some possible new places but got a bit more adventure than we planned. I had no idea some of those trails were out there and while the ATVers didn't want us on "their" trails nothing is marked or designed for specific vehicles, it's pretty much everyone go where you want. I think they were pretty surprised that we could get through there though. While we didn't have any issues the first section was a bit more intense. Nothing like working your way around a tree while on top of a 30' or so ridge that is only about as wide as your rig. I'd say Gator and his wife handles the issue on the second section pretty good, I would have had to clean the "mud" off my seats and my wife would have killed me after that. I put new batteries in the camera when I left in the morning but never took it out. Have not been out there is a few years but we used to head out there from time to time and if you like mud, it's definitely the place to go but you do have to be careful, there are holes out there that will eat a rig like ours and you wouldn't know it until it was too late. For example the Xtera in one of the medium size holes last time were were out there.

I went and washed it myself. Mark had called me up to say he was on his way over to polish it up, but then he told me he was only going to be wearing a G-String :yuck: So I left before he showed and called the cops to report a streaker.

I see you are trying to get ahead of the story before the truth got out :P

What actually happened was Gator called and said he would pay me to polish his truck while only wearing a g-string. I promptly hung up the phone, made sure all doors and windows were lock and that all blinds were closed :where: :o

What actually happened was Gator called and said he would not let me polish his truck while only wearing a g-string. Not caring, I promptly hung up the phone, made my way over, but he had locked all his doors and windows and kept his blinds shut while I went about my duties! :where: :o

Dayum, that looks like a fun way to spend a day as long as your not stuck all the time. Like Mark said, some of those holes can just eat you up in no time.

First time I ever went out there back in '06 as we were entering an area with some holes the guy leading said over the radio to stay out of the hole on the right. What I didn't know was he meant the one on the right when we are leaving the area, not on the right as we headed in. When we left we hit that hole and lets put it this way, I watched a river of water going over the sunroof :o :o

Of course we survived with no issues so it was far from one of the big holes out there but you never no how deep it is even if you went through it a week or two earlier.

You reminded me of this song that came out years ago when streakers first were making a strong appearance in schools, etc., (kind of gives an idea of my age) in the song one of the lyrics were "Ethel get your clothes back on." In your case, "Mark get your clothes back on."
