Mid-South HXC's 1st Event

Postby The Other Rob » Mon Oct 30, 2006 11:47 am

Looks like I've bit off suppporting the Wheels of Thunder /Le Bonhuer Toy Run on November 18th...

Now I've just gotta come up with enough Hummers to haul toys for the group.. Last year they used a 28ft Uhaul truck to carry the toys..

Short notice, but I've got the folks at the Hummer Dealership putting up flyers and making some phone calls..

Right now.. I've got one person committed.. Me.. :o I may be making several dozen trips if I don't come up with a few more folks or a BIG trailer..

Any of yall wanna make a trip to Memphis on Nov 18th to haul a load of toys..??

A charity, a dealer and the HXC all together on your first event is pretty darned impressive. Work the dealer relationship and you'll get your turnout. 8)

Charities involving sick kids and Christmas are easy.. EVERYONE wants to help out with those..

But just try and get folks to support a Deer Playing in the Highway charity and you can't get a soul on your side...

I tell ya what.. The local Hummer crowd just ain't as philanthropic as the local biker crowd.. I can't scare up another soul around here willing to donate a bit of time to haul the toys for this..

Told the folks putting it on if they could score a trailer big enough to hold all the toys in, I'd pull it for them.. Hopefully that'll still help cut out the cost of needing a Uhaul truck..

Hopefully there will be some locals that join in. Great cause and a good excuse to get together, what more can you ask.

X2 again. Try and get them to commit to sending a couple of sales guys along. If you can get the local media to turn out, this will definitely help get the dealership more interested.

Great work!

There's generally at least one station with a camera guy that will show up and follow along the ride to do some clips for the evening news.. But even when there are 400-500 bikes that show up it's never got more than a 30 second news spot...

When I first pitched the idea to 'em they were reluctant at first because they thought I was asking for them to send trucks and drivers to help out.. Putting them in front of that many potential customers that are just standing around, hanging out and looking for something to do for an hour or so, you'd think would be a God send..

Other Rob -- even though I am 10+ hours away, my rig came from Sunrise! If I can figure out a way to justify it, I will gladly come to help you out! Actually, would love to come back Tennessee way!

Thanks for the offer.. Come on up if ya can... I'll show ya what's left of the Wolf River bottoms after the Toy Run 'n buy your lunch or something if nothing else...

There's generally some good music to be found around town somewhere on Saturday nights.. Could just a make a short weekend vacation out of it..

I'd attach a copy of the flier, but I can't attach a DOC file.. Will try and convert 'em over to JPG at home tonight and upload tonight...

Let me know what you figure out on the trailer. I have an 18' enclosed, that is currently loaded up with junk and is dirty, but I could clear it out and and clean it up if you need it and run it up to Memphis that week.

Unfortunately that's the opening day of hunting season here and my young nephew is coming in from out of town for me to take hunting or we would gladly join.

I will double-check on when they plan on getting here and if we can make it, will come help out.

If I can't get a couple more folks on board or talk the dealer out of their trailer I may take ya up on the offer of the trailer..

I've got another possible lead on an enclosed trailer too.. My wife works for the local Harley shop and I know they've got a couple of trailers I might be able to talk them out of one or both...

Just got off the phone with LoLo.. She's working on a plan to be in town for the event... So I'll have a truck count of two now..!!!

I may have to resort to chasing Hummers down the street or plastering flyers on the trucks parked at the mall to catch folks..
