FL Fall Camping/Wheeling Weekend

Postby Mark » Fri Aug 13, 2010 9:03 am

No set plan or anything but wanted to put this out there to see what interest level there was so we could set something up for a few months from now when it cools down. Wanted to setup a weekend trip to Ocala or some other forest in the state. We could reserve a number of campsites together and make a weekend of it, arrive on Friday evening and leave on Sunday. Of course people can show up for the day or any time during the weekend. We did this back in late '06 with people from as far away as SC driving in for the weekend and it was one of the best trips, everyone had a ball. We could either get sites in one of the nicer campgrounds such as Silver Springs or go with one of the more primitive campgrounds such as Delancy East or West. While the developed campgrounds such as Silver Springs offer more amenities such as showers I think the primitive campgrounds like either Delancy would overall be more enjoyable and easier to get the group together let alone about 1/4 the cost which isn't a big deal either way. So what does everyone think? Anybody is welcome and though the wheeling isn't anything to write home about in Ocala the drive in from another nearby state is worth it as we have an absolute ball.

I think we would be intersted, but the wife my stay home with the baby and it would be just me and the two older kids. I think we would just rough it in the tent.

None at this point, just waiting for it to start cooling down a bit. If anybody has any input of ideas post them up.

Hello Everyone,

New to the club, and just wanted to express my interest in going to this or any future trips.
I live in West Palm Beach, and haven't had a chance to meet with other enthusiasts. Wish we had some off-road course around here.

Now that the weather is starting to cool down a bit it's time to get back out there and have some fun. We will have to have you up here to hit Hard Rock one weekend.

Alex wanted to go this past sunday, but I could not swing it. I definately need a wheelin trip, soon. Overnight trip would be sweet. Hard Rock and then Citrus WMA maybe. One during the day and the other after dusk. I'd hate to wheel hard rock during the day and then pay the extra 10 to wheel the same stuff at night. So maybe day hard rock trip and Citrus WMA night trip and then camp in Citrus.

That could be cool. I wouldn't want to pay the extra to wheel Hard Rock at night either. Would add a different element to it but suspect I would be over the place by the time we spent all day there anyway. Can't think of the name of it but there is a great campground we found over in Citrus.

Mark, that would be awesome! Just let me know ahead of time, and I'll be there

Quick news, I was hit by a VW Jetta last night while going home by the corner of the truck, and while sitting in the car I looked at the person's car and saw how bad it was, and thought......"My truck must have received a bad dent"
Happy to report that all that broke was the wheel center cap, the corner of the bumper just has some paint from the other car at the bottom, which is coming off easy...but no damage at all! amazing.
I did notice the tie rod bent a little from impact at the wheel (stock tie rod)...but anyways, I was planning to replace them next week with kryptonite

Btw, any gear, accessories, parts (besides tie-rods) that I need to get or prepare with before wheeling?

Will post up here when we get something going.

Glad to hear the accident wasn't too serious though any damage sucks.

As far as off road gear decent cross section of tools is good, recovery strap and shackles. Most of us have what would be needed so you could do a few runs and determine what you want/need to purchase. I would recommend Trailduty.com for the recovery gear.

I would not go out and buy a bunch of stuff until you make a couple trips with us. I'm sure between me, Mark and Alex, we have enough tools, straps, etc.. to cover just about anything.

Definately a good idea on the Kryptonite setup. I upgraded my centerlink, tie rods, pitman, idler at the same time and added the cognito pitman and idler support kit. Definately helped stiffen up the steering. I know it looks pricey, but its worth the money.
