AZ - Backroad to Crown King, Sat Nov 7

Postby alrock » Sat Oct 31, 2009 12:48 pm

Date: Saturday, November 7.
Time: 9:00 am
Meet: McDonalds at Carefree Highway and I-17
Trail: Backway to Crown King. Page 151 of the Wells book. Most of the trail is moderate to difficult; the most difficult places have bypasses. Any stock Hummer can do this trail. 4-5 hours to complete plus driving time to and from the trail. With large groups or with "technical difficulties" that time can double. Please plan accordingly.

This is a fun trail and it can be as challenging as you want it to be. The first half of the trail has bypasses while the second half you gotta do it all. Underbody protection, rocker protection and a rear locker are recommended but not required. Brush is generally not an issue but there are plenty of rocks where you may get hung up.

The town of Crown King is about 7000' in elevation and can be significantly cooler than where we start near Lake Pleasant. Bring warm clothes in case it is cold up top. Also pack food and beverage accordingly as we could have two meals on the trail if this becomes a long day.

Attendance:
Alrock - H3
Jerry S. - H3
MnstrH2 - Jeep
MaxPF - K Blazer
Crawler - Chevy/Jeep
Tim - Jeep
Dave - Jeep
Steph and Carl - H3
Sandbar - H3

At least you are missing the trail for a great cause. This was last minute of course but we'll set something else up again soon. Requests are always welcome!

hey Gents,
Wow Alex hope you dont scare any potential "travelers" away with some (one of me) of those pics  :o :o
remember readers....there are bypasses for most all the obstacles...and even "in" a particular section there
are easier and more difficult lines to go.....
Alex....Heidi and I are "good to go".....(so yes things are working themselves out).
Hope to see more signing up.....and look forward to Sat......now to check the weather (like it will change  )
