Big Bear - CANCELLED - Aug 2, 2009

Postby Seth » Wed Jul 15, 2009 11:01 am

Run has been canceled due to lack of interest. Will rescedule in the fall.

Big Bear Hearthbreak Ridge Adventure of 2009

The next HXC Big Bear run will be held on August 2nd. We will be doing a one day run to conquer Heartbreak Ridge once and for all. We were stopped in our tracks last year due to snow and had to turn around, but this year the snow is melted and we can tackle the mountain. Big Bear is a beautiful treasure here in SoCal and it is time for us to go and enjoy this amazing place once again. Hummer X Club members and friends will enjoy the Big Bear area for a day of relaxation and fun. Club membership is not required, there are no event entrance fees and all capable vehicles are welcome. Kids are welcome. You are responsible for your own food, lodging, gas, etc.

When: August 2, 2009

Where: Big Bear Lake, CA

Time: 10am we will be hitting the trails. We will be meeting around 9:30 to air down and get started by 10. Expect a full day of trails so bring a lunch to eat while we wheel.

Meeting Spot: Hwy 247 about .7 miles east of mile marker 27. There is a dirt road at this spot called Rattlesnake Canyon Rd. I am unsure if it is marked and doubt it is. Just keep an eye out for the mile markers and you'll find it. The GPS Coordinates are N 34°22'12" W116°39'02".

Directions: To get there, you can take several routes depending on where you are coming from. One route is to take I15 north towards Victorville, exit Bear Valley Rd and turn right. After 12 miles you will turn right onto Hwy 18. Hwy 18 turns into Hwy 247 and this will take you to the meeting spot which is 41.6 miles from the I15 off-ramp at Bear Valley Rd.

Another route is to take the 10 east to Hwy 62 and go north on Hwy 62 for 22 miles. Then take a left on Hwy 247 in Yucca Valley and go north for 26 miles to the meeting spot.

Here is a pic showing both routes. Big Bear is right in the center of the circle at the lake.

If you wish to travel to Big Bear: Hwy 330 to Hwy 18 will take you from San Bernardino to Big Bear Lake. From Big Bear you would take Hwy 18 N to Hwy 247 and go east.

Trails: Rattlesnake Canyon & Heartbreak Ridge.

Rattlesnake Canyon is a moderate trail that will be fun for all. It offers sandy washes and sheer walled canyons. Heartbreak Ridge is a difficult trail, but most difficult spots have bypasses and the most difficult spot is a loop and you don't have to do it you don't want to. This is going to be an exciting run filled with adventure and enjoyment.

Weather: Click on Big Bear Weather for all of your forecasting needs :)

Lodging: Serrano Camp Grounds in Big Bear is full up right now so the only camping available would be yellow post or primitive camping. There are designated camping areas all over Big Bear.

If you want to go just post it here or send me a PM :)

Yeah Ben, this is the one where we had to turn around due to the snow drifts. It's too bad you can't make it. You can always reschedule your trip. ;)

I wish I could join you Seth but I'm camping on Catalina that weekend... It's been way too long and I've got some extra cash that you could earn by taking on some interesting dares. :yuck:

Everyone keep Seth away from the tabasco, pepper, etc.... and jumping jacks.
