Welcome to the forum! I have a rear locker and love it! I wheeled a year in my 2007 H3 without one and it was challenging and I had some recoveries on the really hard stuff. But you can still do some serious wheeling without one. Get to know your truck and get good at BTM'ing you can go far.

I did get a 2008 with the Adventure Package and its nice to just push that button, not near the work to get up some trails...the tires are a very important factor. Some will say that good off road tires are more important than a rear locker I tend to agree.

You certainly don't have to have a locker to wheel an H3 but if given the choice I would most certainly get it. Having the locker will help save some wear and tear on your truck as you don't have to push as hard on some obstacles. The locker is not the only advantage of an Adventure package H3, the 4:1 transfer case is a big plus as well. All that being said, as Calamity mentioned a good set of tires will make all the difference as well :yup:

Please take a minute and post in the Welcome section and tell us a little about you, what you want to do with your truck, where you are located, etc. That's a good place to meet everyone. This is a great forum. You will learn a lot of good info and its a great group of people!

Hopefully you are near some experienced off roaders that will be glad to take you out wheelin!

Thanks for the info! I couldn't imagine all the H3's I saw in the video's had a locker, maybe they do and I am really impressed with the H3 from what I have seen. I am looking to buy and want to make an informed decison. Thanks again.

Thanks for the response alrock, how tall and wide are your tires? And are you running a very agressive mud or rock type tread?
