Trail First Aid

Postby PhilD » Tue Jun 06, 2006 8:07 am

I know this goes without saying and is rather obvious, but thought it worth reminding people, as I see it over looked often. Stick some latex gloves and eye protection in your first aid kit, maybe even a mask. You don't know who you may end up giving first aid to on the trail, and you really don't want some one elses blood on you if you can help it.

Its my thought everyone should have at least a basic first aid kit. at least to quail the bleeding or hold a wound shut. although if bondage gets stuck(snake bite) in the buttocks or any placed below the belt. if your with me, your going to die. ;)

As a paramedic I practically carry everything...but, anyone who has basic first aid knowledge should always have the basics such as:

- Guaze Pressure Pads & strips (You can never have enough of this)
- Tape
- Gloves (Latex or non)
- Bandages (For the little stuff)
- Neosporn type stuff
- Eye Wash (For when you get sprayed with gas or something)
- Cleaning pads, such as alcahol wipes etc
- Snake Kit
- Trauma Sheers (Scissors that will litterally cut through a inch thick wallet - comes in handy)
- Burn Cream

If anyone needs a good first aid kit, I have an account with a medical supply shop, so I can hand pick the right stuff and everything for pretty cheap, just let me know if anyone's interested.
