Potential Off-road Modifications

Postby PhilD » Wed Jun 01, 2005 2:17 pm

We all know the H2 does incredibly well in stock form, and to enjoy your H2 off-road you need not do any modifications to it at all. Actually, there are two things you should do; a/ remove the tube steps (if equipped) before hitting the trail, and b/ carry some basic recovery gear.

However, if you are looking to make some off-road based modifications, maybe this will give you some ideas;

The stock H2 only has one of plastic engine cover piece. There is in fact another set designed for the Vortec 6000 that is made up of three pieces. I'll take some pics tomorrow and post them.

Here's a couple of pics, they aren't exactly clean, but you get the idea;

Some people said they would trap mud under them and cause problems, but I've found the opposite, they generall keep mud/water out of the places you don't want it. They may increase the engine temp slightly, but I haven't noticed it. I know someone didn't like the gaps around the top pieces so trimmed the supports away underneath so they fitted flush, but they are designed to have that gap to allow hot air out.

They are standard GM parts. I don't have the part #'s, but I bought them from gmpartsdirect.com
