Trail-Recon trails database

Postby Alec W » Wed Feb 03, 2010 3:37 pm

A friend and I have been working on an interactive trail database for a while and it’s finally ready for beta testing. The goal was to create something where users can add/update trail data and create an easy to use interface for finding/displaying trail information. More importantly, we wanted the information in a concise format, links to the various forest services, current conditions etc. so it’s useful for trail running and not just a history of some past event. Kinda like a dynamic version of the trails books people use today. Not easy goals but I think this beat version accomplished some of all that

Anyhow, that all sounds techie and corporate, what I’d really like is to get some feedback from guys who go wheeling all the time. The url is www.trail-recon.com/vforum/trails.php. Anyone can view the trails etc. but you would need to sign in to to edit or add trails (becoming a member is free).

I checked with Mark before I posted this because as we do have a forum and there is a hummer tech section. We are not trying to compete with anyone and are focused on the trail aspect of the sport vs. the vehicle side.

I love it. This is the type of thing I have always been looking for. A user edited trail website is a great idea. I always wished the dirtopia wiki would have caught on better, but your idea is even better.

Thanks Mark :)

I've been adding a lot of trails out here but eventually I'll run out and a lot of trails is what will make this site work out.
