Last Chance Tellico...

Postby The Other Rob » Mon Nov 16, 2009 11:53 pm

From an email I received this morning from NORA (National Off-Road Association).......

http://www.nora-usa.com/takeaction/index.cfm

"Call Congressman Heath Shuler

CALL TO ACTION – (828) 252-1651

Call Congressman Heath Shuler and encourage him and his staff to appeal the recent decision by the United States Forest Service to close the Tellico OHV Area. When making your phone call to Congressman Shuler’s Ashville, NC office, please be polite and stick to the facts. We know many of you are passionate about this topic; however poor language will only work against our efforts, please be respectful.

The appeals deadline ends at the end of November, so please don’t wait to make this phone call. “Taking Action on this important issue is critical”, says Off-Road Hall of Famer and Explorer Club member, Mark A. Smith. “Tell Shuler to quit sitting on the sidelines and play ball”.

Comment to Congressman Heath Shuler:

My name is (your name), and I would like to encourage Congressman Shuler to file a formal appeal against the United State Forest Service regarding North Carolina Forest Supervisor, Marisue Hilliard’s recent decision to permanently close the Tellico OHV Area to motorized recreation.

This closure will have a significant economic impact on the communities surrounding Tellico. Trail Closure = Job Loss. Congressman Shuler needs to Take Action on this important issue and not sit on the sidelines. Thank you."

I spoke with a US Forest officer yesterday who works western nc and he said that he supports the reopening of Tellico and if the courts agree to reopen it, people would pay to go on the mountain and that if anyone is caught tearing up the trails, they would be fined and would not be able to return to the mountain. But waiting on the courts. Yall all know how that is :wall:

It sucks to have to wait on the courts but I have not issue with those guidelines. Wonder what the day rate would be now because you already had to pay to be on the trails.

Extreme 4X4 on Spike TV did a little segment about Tellico today, respectfully discounting the reasons why they closed it.
